AHMEDABAD: Sadhus of a religious sect of Gadhada town of Bhavnagar district on Monday went on a rampage and clashed with sadhus of a rival sect, leading to tension in the town, police said here.
Prohibitory orders on movement have been imposed in some of the affected areas after some of the sadhus attacked a local police station and also tried self-immolation before police, Bhavnagar police said.
Police baton-charged the agitating sadhus and lobbed teargas shells in the air to quell the mob.
Officials said preliminary probe indicated that the sadhus of a sect had some scuffle with those of another sect and this snowballed into a riot-like situation.
Police have intensified patrolling in the trouble-hit locality.
